Helpwith UDP error

When opening the VLC client to receive a video stream I see the following error in messages window.

access_udp error: cannot open socket
main error: no suitable access module for udp 'udp"@[fe80::230:48ff:fe54:876e%eth0]

What is causing this erro and how doesone resolve it?
