Re: Can't Record video

Thank you, Betty. It seems to be working here also. The only weird thing is that the progress bar stays in the end position the whole time the recording is playing, so you can't tell where you actually are in the video. That's relatively minor, though.

Thanks again,
Paul

Can't Record video

Hi, I'm on MX-17 Linux (debian 9.3 stable) x64, running an nvidia video card. I have VLC 2.2.8. When I Record a segment of a playing video, only the audio is captured. I've tried most of the Video / output module settings, including OpenGL. One of them did record the video, but the audio didn't star...

Ok, I had downloaded that, but understanding it is another thing altogether. I'll keep it in mind for the next time I try this. Thanks again,

Re: Reduce recording size

Thanks. I see how to do that, but I'm getting bad visual artifacts and no sound. But that's a problem for another day.

Thank you. I understand that conceptually, but I have no idea how to actually do it.

Reduce recording size

Hi, I'm using VLC 1.1.8 on Win7 x64. I have a bunch of videos, mostly .mp4s, that I would like to reduce the file size of. Currently I'll take a 30 minute, 150MB file and manually edit it in VLC, with the VLC output being 98MB for 21 minutes of play time. That's better, but is there any way to set t...

Re: COM errors in Firefox

There are a lot of them.... This is in addition to the VLC section posted above. Thanks, p. Ok, on Preview there is a problem. The last column, Enabled, is cut off. This is not the case in the originals or in the uploaded files at photobucket. I don't know how to resolve that, so I'm also including ...

Re: COM errors in Firefox

Here's the VLC part of A:P. BTW, the email notification for this thread specced a secure https://.... URL, and both FF and IE reports that the certificate is not valid. I got here by removing the s from the protocol. First time I can remember this happening. Paul http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y14...

Re: COM errors in Firefox

Ok, I just ran into the error. Here's the dialog box: Runtime Error! Program: c:\com\firefox\firefox.exe R6034 An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly. Please contact the application's support team for more information. [ OK ] Here's the page that tripped the err...

Re: COM errors in Firefox

No, that wasn't the exact wording. I'll need to wait until the error reoccurs and post it verbatim. Typically it's with embedded non-flash audio or video.

COM errors in Firefox

Hi, I'm running the 0.9.9 version. Since installing it I've been getting COM errors whenever the Firefox plugin tries to stream. Says something like "an application has incorrectly loaded COM files". At first it would cause FF to exit, but lately that has not been the case. Thanks for any ...

A ha. that would explain that. I'm still lost, however.

I understand the maloska wrapper is supported, and that it might be better. Maybe I need to go to the stream forum.

Thanks,

Saving DVD chapters

Hi folks,

Is it possible to save DVD chapter divisions when capturing a DVD stream? I'm getting the stream pretty well using mp1v-mp3 encoding in a mpeg shell, but all the chapters are lost. I'm on Win XP.

Thanks,

Maybe VLC should consider conforming to Windows standards on this point. Think of how many users would be added if the VLC system option were available to them, if they could control basic calls and interface functions via their input devices, and how with those new users would come corresponding le...

I don't think you understand. The keyboard reads registered system clients from the Registry. It's the responsibility of the app to write itself there, then the keyboard, or other apps or devices, can read it and offer it as a choice.

Ok, I've played with it, making up fake reinstall commands. I get VLC to show as a choice for default media app, but it won't register because there are no commands behind my pointers. So the developers would have to attend to this for it to work.

Ok, with some nice help I found the Reg location for system clients at HKLM\software\clients... I've made a key for VLC, but I'm not yet up to the InstallInfo subkey details, which is the heart of the matter. Here are the instructions: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us...

Can't make VLC the default media player

It appears there is no way to make VLC the default media player on XP. Note, this is not the same as associating various file types with the app. Consequently my MS Keyboard will not recognize VLC as a media player for the purpose of assigning special keys. Apparently VLC lacks certain registration ...

I believe that nailed it. I d/l'd the skin bundle, and it's loading them and playing fine. Must have been a semi-working skin artifact clogging the works.

ok, I think I'm getting near the problem. I downloaded a new skin, chose skinnable interface, then selected the new skin, and it plays.

It seems the problem is that the old skin, called skin2, shouldn't exist, yet it displays. Wish I could find it and reinstall, because I prefer it.

Thanks,
p.
