Re: VLC Will NOt Pick Up My Full ASF file

What do you use to convert yours? VLC. Media->Convert/Save. Select appropriate profile; in my case it's H.264 + AAC. Or, if needed, set up one of your own. Edit the profile so Encapsulation is MP4/MOV, Video codec page shows Keep original ... checked, but Video is unchecked. Do similarly for Audio ...

Re: VLC Will NOt Pick Up My Full ASF file

I have the same problem with large ASF files. My workaround: Convert to a .mp4 file, keeping the orignal video and audio tracks (and not transcoding any new ones). This goes very fast, as it's only re-containering the file. The result should play in its entirety, with seeking and other trick play fe...

Any way to seek in a growing file?

I would like to be able seek within a remote TV program that has not yet completed, e.g. begin watching basketball an hour after the game starts, and be able to skip over commercials and halftime, as well as back up to replay missed action. The system presently consists of: Video source->Slingbox->L...

Re: AAC in ASF files

Just for laughs, I tried patching the running libavcodec_plugin.dll to ignore the "refusing to use" check. The messages now show: avcodec debug: libavcodec already initialized avcodec warning: Physical channel configuration not set : guessing avcodec warning: Audio object type 0 is not sup...

Re: AAC in ASF files

Can you give us access to this stream? Thanks for offering to take a look. A failing .asf file (truncated to 100 packets): http://rapidshare.com/files/187541245/test1.asf.html A .aac made from it: http://rapidshare.com/files/187541246/test1.aac.html Messages when I try to play the .asf: main debug:...

AAC in ASF files

I have some .asf files with H264 video and AAC audio streams. When one of these files is opened in VLC (either 0.9.8a under Win XP or 0.8.6e under Ubuntu), the video plays fine but there is no sound. The Errors window shows: 'No suitable decoder module: VLC does not support the audio or video format...

player problems when stream parameters change

I am trying to broadcast an oversubscribed lecture to two additional classrooms, using UDP multicast over a LAN. There are three video sources. Sometimes, when the source is changed, one or both of the players does not render the new video stream properly, or just a blank screen appears; the audio i...

How to stream video from camcorder, audio from sound card

I'm running VideoLAN 0.8.6c under Win XP SP2. A Sony HDR-HC7 (in HDV output format) is connected via 1394. I want to stream video from the camera, but supply audio via the sound card. On the DirectShow tab, I select Video device name=Microsoft AV/C Tape Device and Audio device name=SigmaTel Audio. T...

Many thanks for the replies. I am happy to hear that the transcoder can use multiple threads. (The documentation only speaks about separate threads for different tasks, e.g. one for decoding and another for video output.) Since I'll be assembling a new system for this task, I'm curious what OS you r...

Transcoding / Streaming HDTV?

I am seeking some advice about HDTV from the encoding and streaming experts on this forum. I live in a rural area near Reno, Nevada, USA, have a small apartment in Paris, and enjoy watching American satellite TV while in Paris. My present system provides decent quality from NTSC sources, streaming W...

Hi Sigmund, Thanks for the suggestion. VLC does an awesome job on (5). It is cool to see the seek slider jerk backwards when new content gets added to the file being played, and to see the total length increasing as you watch. I'm having trouble with (2) and (3) though. It seems that most HTTP serve...

The content to be viewed is basketball. The available upstream speed is 1000 kb/sec. My present real-time system uses Windows Media Video 9 encoding, downsampling to 320x240, at 752 kb/s video + 16 kb/s audio. I had done some offline tests with Windows Media Encoder, and found that at this data rate...

Streaming slower than real-time?

I am seeking software that can stream video (and associated audio) over a WAN connection that is too slow to permit real-time operation at the desired quality level. The system flow would be: Capture -> Compression CODEC -> Disk FIFO Buffer -> WAN -> Disk FIFO Buffer -> VLC Media Player. For example...
