Originally the project I am working on was based on a 4:3 aspect video source, where the Osprey 230/210 series of cards work very well. Unfortunately I cannot change the hardware at this stage, as I need to get the service up and running ASAP, so I think I shall have to just capture the image as 4:3...

Hope you had a nice weekend :) Now, back to advanced info tab (Uncropped, when cropped in driver it was the resolution above): Codec: I420 Language: Type: Video Resolution: 768x576 Frame rate: 25.00000 For some reason I need to select a 4:3 aspect ratio resolution when capturing 16:9 video, and then...

Hmm! Seems more likely the resolution would fall in a common form. I agree 768 is odd but is divisible by 16 but the 428 is not and is unlikely the correct number. More likely is 432 which would be 1.78:1 and fall into the newer progressive formats for 16x9. Most newer programs complain when you ma...

Hmm, recording might be the problem: The commandline used is: Test1.mp4: ffmpeg dshow:// :dshow-vdev="Osprey-230 Video Device 1" :dshow-adev="" :dshow-size="" :sout=#transcode{vcodec=mp4v,vb=1024,scale=1,acodec=mp4a,ab=192,channels=2}:duplicate{dst=display,dst=std{acces...

Having experimentet a bit, and tried: ffmpeg -i test.mp4 -aspect 16:9 test2.mp4 Which VLC will happily play as a 16:9 movie, it would seem that VLC is not setting the aspect-ratio MPEG4 flag. Is there a specific command line option which can force this? I have tried --crop=16:9 and --aspect-ratio=16...

Problems with recording a 16:9 stream with VLC

My problem is as follows: I have a Osprey 230 card which is capturing a stream which is sent in 16:9 aspect ratio, and I would like to record this as a 16:9 stream without letterboxing. I can crop the image in the driver so it delivers only the actual video (the letterbox is added by the driver so t...

I know it can be done via VLCs advanced configuration screen, but thus far I haven't found anything via the web, documentation or VLC --help.

Setting the encoding bitrate of the PVR-250 from the cmdline

I am re-working an application we have made capturing video using VLC under linux with a Hauppauge PVR 250 card to a Windows platform, as our next client only uses Windows 2003 Server. Having fought with the sound bug for some time, and finally gotten it to work. (Plugging the sound cable in the rig...

Live streaming problem

We are using VLC 0.8.1 on a Mandrake 10.2 box. We are currently using several PVR cars (Hauppauge 250/350 cards), and we wish to do live streaming with them. However, when using bitrates above 2Mbps, we get these kinds of errors: [00000327] access_output_udp private debug: mmh, packets in the past (...

Update

I have tried VLC with a Firewire DV cam, same problem.

I have also tried a pure camera (iSight), no problem.

My theory is that VLC gets confused by the combined audio and video stream from the Firewire devices.

Any comments?

VLC crashes when reading from firewire source

I am using VLC 0.8.1 on Windows XP with a Miglia Director's Cut connected through Firewire. When I use the videosource (Miglia box) with other programs (i.e. Microsoft Movie Maker), there is no problems. When I on the other hand, choose the device as a video capturing device, (It is shown after usin...

Problem with WinTV PVR 250 and rtp streaming

See also http://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?t=4696 When using the RTP module to multicast an MPEG2 stream from a PVR 250 card, VLC player jumps back and forth in the videostream (millisecond jumps), this behaviour is not in i.e. QuickTime with MPEG2 plugin. If I use the UDP module or watch dire...

OK, I have tried further experiments, both cating the /dev/video0 to disk and viewing it, VLS, as well as more VLC unicast sending, and the problem only appears when sent over multicast with the RTP module.

I am now beginning to suspect the RTP code either in the sending or receiving instance of VLC.

Hmm, that is not good. But does not the udp module create two TS as well? Besides, as the PVR-250 is mentioned in your documentation, someone else should have had this problem before (but my search turned up nothing.) Is there an easy way I can check the dump of the stream if the problem is the one ...

I have tried to stream using the udp module, directly to the Powerbook, there is no problem then, only when multicasting. We also stream MPEG4 streams, encoded with VLC, no problem. So, the problem appears to be the multicast transmission, but it is strange that QuickTime with the MPEG2 plugin does ...

Videolan has problems with Hauppauge WinTV PVR-250 MPEG2

I am trying to play a MPEG2-stream, sent over multicast with another VLC instance on a another computer. Using QuickTime, the stream plays perfectly, using VLC, the stream skips forward and backwars in tiny amounts, the video that is, the sound plays perfectly. I have dumped the output to file in th...

VLC will start a builtin web server yes, so you will not need to do anything.

sdp=http://server.example.org:8080/test.sdp means that VLC will start a HTTP server on port 8080, serving the test.sdp file.

So yes, it is autogenerated.

Streaming from an Happauge WinTV PVR-250 - no picture

We are trying to use a PVR-250 to stream rtp multicast using VLC: vlc -vvv pvr:/dev/video0:norm=pal:size=720x576:bitrate=3000000:maxbitrate=3500000 --sout '#rtp{dst=224.32.36.184,port=5000,sdp=http://158.36.47.170:8000/test.sdp}' --cr-average 1000 --mtu 1460 --ttl 64 But using either VLC or Quicktim...

That would be correct, yes.

IPv4 streams work perfectly,
IPv6 from VLC, only one being decoded.
IPv4 through IPv6 multicast gateway, only one being decoded.

TTL is at 60, while the testing computer is one hop away, should be no problem there. IPv6 multicast works perfectly with all other applications, only VLC has this behaviour. (Note, I always get the data on the port I ask for, but not on the accompanying +2 port, while asking for port + 2 gives what...

IPv6 multicast - no sound alternatively no picture

We are using VLC to multicast to TV channels on our campus network. For IPv4 everything works great, while IPv6, it only works when played on the same physical network as the streaming box. On all other networks we only get either sound or only picture, but with the same paramters. Has anyone else e...
