Re: "Video Acceleration (VA)" API or "Automatic"?

There is no VLC 2.2.2 as yet. I added a PPA for VLC I found on one of the Ubuntu sites (WebUpd8 or OMG! Ubuntu). I guess the version on that PPA is some sort of pre release since it specifically says VLC 2.2.2 in the About section of the player installed. I'll wait asking questions about this versi...

"Video Acceleration (VA)" API or "Automatic"?

Hi, I am running VLC 2.2.2 on Ubuntu 13.10 x64. The computer is an Intel i7 powered Thinkpad T430s. Under the codec settings there are two options offering hardware acceleration "Video Acceleration (VA) API" and "Automatic". Does it matter which one of these I use? I would of cou...

Video won't stay on top when using skins.

Hi, VLC works great on a my Linux Mint Debian laptop. I have one problem though: When I enable skins (not native) the video won't stay above the toolbar with start menu at the bottom of my screen, and the player itself stays above the video also. All kinds of weird things happens if I try to maximiz...

At a console window, try the command vlc --longhelp --advanced. That will list all of the possible options available to you. (in my case, I saved the output to a text file as a reference) Did that. Thanks. No mention of instance at all in the output. However, I got my other question to this forum a...

In Miscellaneous, it should show up directly below the "Modules search path" area. Alternately, if you know where your vlcrc file is (no clue on Linux -- it's mentioned in the VLC FAQ somewhere), you can edit it. Do a search for the word "instance". You will want to make a line ...

Only one instance of the player.

Settings -- Preferences, select Advanced options. Look under General settings -- Miscellaneous, there's an "Allow only one instance" checkbox. Press Save after you have checked the box. This is weird. I do not have that setting there (or anywhere else). I am running vlc 0.8.0-test1 (wxWin...

Having the player remember the equalizer setting.

Hi,

Is is possible to have vlc open with the same audio settings (equalizer and normalizer) every time? I can't figure out how to do that. I set the eq play, close vlc and then reopen finding it set back to default.

Only one instance of the player.

Hi, I am using vlc (wxvlc) on Linux. It works fine for all media files I play. However, I usually launch streams, movies and mp3's from either a browser or filemanager. How do I make sure the wxvlc instance running is reused when I launch something new, rather than having another player windows open...
