i am not sure, but somehow you have to change the muxxing as you do not need to recompress at quicktime HD is already in h264 format most likely (99%). Anyways, VLC can probably do this, as a stream dump or something, maybe mplayer, or a dedicated program for re-muxing a file.

i don't know. ifyou typed that whole line into a command line then it should have downloaded the latest release into a folder called: ffmpeg_source

you need to get ffmpeg as well:

svn co svn://svn.mplayerhq.hu/ffmpeg/trunk ffmpeg_source

then configure and compile (but do not install) ffmpeg. and link to the source folder ffmpeg_source and compile vlc then.

if you don't intergrate it in, but use say vlc for displaying a video (by making calls to the command line) then it doesn't violate the GPL right?

sorry, i forgot to mention that i was using linux (fc6) and am idealy looking for the conf/text files to edit so I can be sure of what is going on...
