Re: VLC 3.0.1 - Can't play 4K HEVC 10 bit HDR because of high CPU

I can confirm the high CPU usage with 3.0.1, while playing the same file on the same system used in my comparison thread here: https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.ph ... 8&p=470763

It also returned a "close unexpectedly" error when closing after a ⌘-Q keyboard command.

Re: Comparison: VLC vs BPP with BR repacks

Toss "mid-2011 27" iMac" at Google, and top returns will take you straight to a site with the relevant specs. (This particular machine has an AMD Radeon HD 6970M with 2gb of VR. The "M" in the model stands for "mobile"; in other words, is a lower-horsepower card si...

If BBP can play them, so should any other software of the same platform: https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.ph ... 73#p470173
This is fixed for 3.0.2
I had the same problem, and noted that it generally occurred after I'd quite 3.0.1 after massive memory-leaking (which I was able to keep track of by having the MacOS' Activity Monitor...

Playlist bugs

(Version 3.0.1) 1. Selecting Window > Playlist after launch results in just the titlebar and the bottom play-bar. (I.e., there's no rectangular field to drag-n-drop files into.) 2. A dragged in .m3u playlist files begins auto-playing. (I'd rather it didn't.) 3. Saving an .m3u playlist file of xyz na...

Crop settings

16:9 screens are probably the majority of devices these days, and I'd like to suggest a few easily-selectable options for playback: 1) "16:9 screen?" to immediately appear underneath "Default" in the Video > Crop drop-menu. When selected, the following occurs: * Video with a sour...

Comparison: VLC vs BPP with BR repacks

(I'm placing this in Troubleshooting because some of the problems encountered appear to be solvable bugs.) _______ * Q. "What are BR repack?" ...These are large files (typically 40-60gb) which are lossless Blu-ray remuxes in 2160 resolution (i.e., 4k). Most 64-bit CPU desktops from 2009 on...

1) Version 2.2.8 Weatherwax's update function doesn't inform of version 3. 2) 3.0.1's playback is on the dark side at least with some files, leaving dark video scenes black to the point of indiscernibility. Three (easy?) feature requests/alterations

1. Custom zoom setting. For example, I have a 15" laptop with a fairly common 1366x768 resolution, and have found that a height of 600 is ideal for having the picture as large as possible on such a screen while not covering various upper and lower menu-bars of other applications. Ideally such a...

Substitles -- LOT of work still needs to be done!

Starters, kudos on the drop-down listings -- sorely needed, and therefore thank you. On to very delayed business: see the following thread for background. 1) Still no ability to force a language pre...

Re: Subtitle controls suck

Does anyone know of a way to retime (PAL > NTSC) the IDX + SUP files created by VobSub? When working with subtitles numbering in the dozens, it quickly becomes time-prohibitive to monkey with each one individually, and I'd just like to retime the whole mess -- then drag n drop them into VLC while I'...

Re: Subtitle controls suck

If there's any way to, right now, jerry-rig.... 1) FORCE subtitles off (without messing in preferences).... 2) FORCE a language default (so that every vid with that language "flag" set will auto-select that audio track, ignoring the mux "default") ....for ALL files dropped into t...

Requests: 1) "Toggle Subtitles" button added to main play window next to the mute button. 2) "Subtitles Enabled?" added to the Video drop-down menu. It has a checkbox in front of it. 3) If an audio track of XYZ language flag is playing, subtitles of the same language will not dis...

Re: Help: Lost ability to play WAV files

1) File-extensions aren't the issue -- VLC should be the player with a "cast-iron stomach" that can digest anything. At present, it cannot play something which it used to be able to play -- and that's a retreat. 2) Are there any "unstable" versions that DO play APE files? If ther...

Re: Help: Lost ability to play WAV files

No. Adding ".mp3" to the name doesn't change its filetype in XP once it already has a file-type.

-- VLC *used* to be able to play an mp3 inside a wav wrapper -- so some functionality has been lost relative to other players and applications which can play and/or open them just fine.

Help: Lost ability to play WAV files

Somewhere between 8.5c and 8.6f, I lost the ability to play .wav files (even though the relevant .dll appears to be present) in XP. I have all the latest codecs (I'm a "ripper"), and have made sure all the boxes are checked during installation. (Suspicion, which I'll need someone to check:...

Re: Subtitle controls suck

Jech, it sounds like the ability is already present in VLC. Subsequently, all that's needed now is for new versions of VLC to position subtitles automatically from the bottom of the screen by default (rather than bottom of the video frame by default). It will do this by determining first determining...

Re: Foul Language Filter

I may be naive, but it seems to me that it would be simple enough to have a user customizable list of words that VLC can watch for in the subtitles. Then, simply mute the sound for a second or two in order to "filter" the foul language. This simply won't work, for the reason that subtitle...

Re: Subtitle controls suck

If there are preference settings that can be tweaked without rewriting display code, then all we really need is an easier means of doing it, with, preferably, some automation built-in. E.g., it's a 16x9 monitor and user is playing 2.35:1 image, so there will be black bars...and subtitles will fit [i...
