Before trying to use the "askin" skin, does the default skin (white, with black buttons) work? For example, what happens if you reset the preferences, (re)start vlc, and select Settings --> Switch interface --> skins 2? I have reinstalled VLC again using the option to get rid of the cache...

Okay let me explain. I want my VLC to look like the one on the VLC homepage. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

What I mean by this is that I want there to be the video (DirectX Output) separate from the buttons such as play/pause, stop etc.

Anybody know how to do this?

- open the preferences, and in the 'Interface --> General' section change the 'Interface module' from 'Default' to 'Skinnable interface' (in the dropdown control, not in the checkbox).
