Which video codec is used in the MP4 file?
If you press ctrl i or View, Stream and Media Information and then go to Advanced Information tab while playing a video, VLC should show you some info about the used video codec.

help me getting c code for VLC program to receive RTP packets from VLC player.

Vlc use the c++ lib from ttp://www.live555.com/liveMedia/ to receive RTP packets.

Can you upload a sample some where?
What audio/video codec is used in the file?
May be it will help if you remux the file with mkvmerge(gui).

Compile FFmpeg with amr support. You will find info about that in the configure script.

Last time I tested it, H264 rtsp(rtp) streams created by vlc(relayed with DSS) was only watchable with vlc. Some one mentioned the used sdp file could be the problem. I don't know the right entries dependent from the used H264 settings, so I dumped the video H264 stream with vlc and muxed/hinted it ...

How did you install vlc? Is libffmpeg installed? At Linux there is "top" or hit [strg]+[esc] in KDE.

Do you know which video codec ist used? What Info do you get with mkvinfo "yourFile.mkv"? Mkvinfo can be found here: http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/ .

Real video in mkv isn't supported by vlc,AFAIK.

I didn't test it, but rtsp links supported by QuickTime should work with vlc(live555) too. It seems that no service is reachable at this IP(218.189.167.10) for the moment. Are you sure that the IP for the stream didn't changed?

With the rpm from PackMan ( http://packman.links2linux.de/ )dvb should work. Here at SuSE 10.0 it works with the rpm from PackMan.

I had too no luck with native Mpeg 4 ASP in mkv. I got the same playback problem some time ago:

Here playback seems more ore less to work with xine-lib, not sure if some frames are missing. But xine has problems with 5.1 aac audio.
