And it's not an issue specific to the media file being played — Files i played fine yesterday aren't working today.

Rebooting didn't help. Changing "allow programs to have exclusive access" in sound settings didn't help. Bah humbug.

I tried ALL the suggestions I've found on the net and elsewhere. Sound isn't working with VLC player, but only through one of my multiple audio outputs.
