I have figured out what is going on and all the above is not particularly accurate.

Handbrake was also a fail, but I learned something. So let me do the full story in detail. For whatever it is worth, both ffmpeg and MP4Tools also cannot "see" past 2:10. And Playstation 4 will not open them at all

I had some DVDs I made from camcorder recordings. Four of the DVDs are around 6hrs.
