Grasping at straws here, is it possible to have more than one instance of VLC so that topics could be separated that way?

Is it possible to nest media groups? I have a number of topics and would like to have a media group for each. Each topic has a few subjects that I would similarly like to keep separate - ideally with some groups within the top-line group. Are there any strategies for segmenting materials in this way...
