Has this issue EVER been fixed??? It's now August of 2024 and it still refuses to play videos correctly even after re-encoding in many different varieties and formats. They are all 16x9 widescreen format VLC refuses to play them in anything but 4x3 which of course is squishing the video horizontally...

... and now it just starts working. I believe it was when I "forced stop" VLC and restarted it. No idea why a reboot of the Firestick wouldn't do the same thing!

Maybe not the answer you are looking for, but I use Universal Media Server on my PC and VLC 3.5.4 on my firestick 4k has no issues accessing and playing media files.

Or try the VLC 3.6.0 nightly build (Armv7 in my case).

Thanks Aza, but I don't have that setting. I only have prefer SMB 1 and unchecking that doesn't do anything for my issue.

Since I'm the only one that will answer myself I will. LOL! I fixed the issue on most of my systems by allowing VLC access to storage. That fixed all but my Fire TV Stick 4K.
