When we look for codec information of a .mp3 file, the codec name is shown as 'MPEG Audio layer 1/2'. When I referred to https://wiki.videolan.org/VLC_Features_Formats/ , there seems to be a clear distinction between 'MPEG Audio layer 1/2' and an actual 'MP3'.
