Is there a way to check the vlc release history dates? I found this page but do not see dates anywhere.

You don't need to use the installer when using the zip and 7zip version. It works without installing VLC. I use XP Pro SP3.So you aren't using installer, so it cannot be installer issue. Are you running Vista?
