I found a work around. If you go to ur Google drive on ur iOS device there's a right menu for each file. Click make available offline then they appear in the icloud drive in VLC. They are not really on ur iCloud but VLC shows them there.

We had to change the login mechanism recently. Can you log out, kill the app in the app switcher and login again? This should make it work. Unfortunately it didn’t work. The issue still persists.
