thanks. that worked - i had toggled it before posting, but it looks like i had to restart VLC to make it take effect. that makes sense though, probably doesn't deregister with the OS until it is time to quit.

is there a way to have VLC ignore when headphones are removed? i use VLC to monitor security cameras and every time i take off my airpods max, the video/audio pauses... but i don't want that behavior. i looked around thru the preferences and couldn't find anything. i'm a little worried this might be...
