I can also confirm this problem (under Windows Vista 32-bit). If I select OpenGL output, the video looks great but the screen saver comes on. If I select the default video output (Direct 3D) the blacks are all washed out. I am using an 8800gts with the latest drivers from nVidia.

I am also still using v0.8.6b because I greatly prefer the old interface to the new one (also any release newer than this shows the player while in fullscreen mode if always on top is enabled). When the "always on top" option is enabled when viewing in fullscreen mode, the VLC program window is shown and will not go away like it normally does when the video part of the screen is clicked. This problem does not exist in v0.8.6b but does in both v0.8.6c and v0.8.6d.

After I installed VLC v0.8.6c on Windows Vista 32-bit, the always on top feature no longer works properly. When watching a movie in full screen mode with always on top enabled, there is a blank VLC box on top of the movie. This problem did not exist in VLC v0.8.6b.

From searching on the forum it looks like .avi output was removed from the transcoding wizard due to it being broken. It would be great if someone could fix it and add it back to the wizard. While .avi may be outdated as an encapsulation format, a lot of devices only support that format and it would...
