This app "Just Video Player" is capable of playing Dolby Vision files in any container on Android TV. For VLC, such files just fall back to HDR10. Since this app is open source perhaps VLC devs can take a look at its code to see how it does it?

Still getting this issue. VLC 3.4.3 on a Sony X90J running latest firmware. Very big obvious stutter every time a subtitle shows up. Seems to happen with PGS, but not SRT. Not sure about ASS.
