Re: Skip Silence / Dead Air in Videos and Audio

Yes, I can't bear podcasts of youtubers those speak very fast but with long pauses. Increasing playback speed barely helps to save time and still understand the words.

Re: Possibilyty of nested playlists in vlc

You can link a playlist as a playlist entry (as URL or inside the same directory). I did this to select low-res streaming formats of TV stations.

Re: Save custom equaliser settings to file + Load them from presets dropdown menu

I suggest to create a more general solution for saving any groups of parameters as user presets.

VLC settings manager (save/load user preset adjustments)

One of the most annoying design flaws of VLC is that it can not save image and sound adjustments as individual user presets. Many people refuse to watch video on VLC, because it makes certain video formats unbearable. Switching between multiple copies of the vlcrc INI file often is not an option bec...

Re: Bug-Report: VLC 3 swaps even & odd scanlines (AMD Ryzen 2400G)

I have switched the video output module from VDPAU to xVideo output (XBC) now, which seems to fix the scanline swap.

Re: Bug-Report: VLC 3 swaps even & odd scanlines (AMD Ryzen 2400G)

Disabling hardware decoding in the Eingang/Videocodecs/FFmpeg setting does not change it at all. I suspect that the screen stretch algorithm by the display manager might be faulty, but in KDE5 Plasma and Cinnamon they look the same. The vertically alternating stripes of partially wrong scanlines loo...

Re: Bug-Report: VLC 3 swaps even & odd scanlines (AMD Ryzen 2400G)

The scanline swap has the width of the played low resolution video, not the much thinner scanlines of the linux graphics mode (using 1280x1024 on a 22'' Trinitron CRT). This is the debug log from the "Meldungen" window when playing a video. The full debug log (mode 2) is too huge (>1600 li...

Bug-Report: VLC 3 swaps even & odd scanlines (AMD Ryzen 2400G) [solved]

fix: Apparently video output module must be set to XBC instead of VDPAU output. The default VLC 3.0.9 of Linux Mint 20.1 has a bug that seems to swap all even and odd scanlines in low resolution video files (downloaded from Youtube), which looks ugly and makes small text unreadable. I am using KDE5...

Re: Bug-Report: VLC 3.0.16 corrupts converted videos (black screen at start)

Using a PPA can not "mess up the install" when it does actually run. ("File not found" would be the result of a wrong Linux brand or version.) It might be some kind of MESA or amdgpu driver incompatibility, but I had tried all kinds of different modes (also software renderer) whi...

Re: Bug-Report: VLC sets wrong conversion mode when switching renderer

The problem is that the initially uninitialized parameter "sout-x264-preset=" only gets assigned to something ("ultrafast") after first time clicking a (any?) button in the setup menu and so messes up the video conversion mode. This is obviously caused by the way the setup GUI ha...

Forum displays CODE garbled on Firefox 91.0 (Linux)

When I watch the "print" version of forum pages on Firefox 91.0 (Linux Mint 20.1, KDE5 Plasma), the "CODE" sections get garbled and squeezed unformatted into a single block like this: "differences in vlcrc after switching back and forward: co_windler@Juchhe:~/Dokumente/Arbei...

Bug-Report: VLC sets wrong conversion mode when switching renderer

I found a very confusing bug in VLC (on Linux or Win10). Switching the video output mode (dropdown menu) first time from "automatic" to any others will start to convert videos with a terribly blocky pixelated renderer. You CAN NOT simply switch back to make the original conversion mode wor...

Re: VLC is constantly losing sound

If sound stutters after jumping back/forward withhin a video, try to set the audio output to ALSA instead of the default.

Re: Bug-Report: VLC 3.0.16 corrupts converted videos (black screen at start)

The default VLC 3.0.9 converts correctly, but VLC always had the issue that the first seconds of converted video look blocky (also on Windows). I conclude that the 1st I- frame (keyframe) at the begin of each converted video has too low resolution and in 3.0.16 gets additionally damaged or even is m...

Bug-Report: VLC 3.0.16 corrupts converted videos (black screen at start)

The default VLC 3.0.9 of Linux Mint 20.1 has a bug that makes it lockup when closing its window ("x" button) while a video is playing. (Tested in KDE5 Plasma on AMD 2400G with recent amdgpu driver 21.20.) So you always need to enter "killall -9 vlc" to make VLC start again. So I ...
