This seems to be getting worked on a bit (see https://code.videolan.org/videolan/vlc/-/issues/25411). I would be happy to test any corrected versions on XP. I wouldn't go so far as to say that it's being "worked on". On Github where you've contributed a couple of screenshots you mentioned...

This is likely caused by the same bug that causes the subtitles to not display. Just for information, this is apparently getting worked on a bit (see https://code.videolan.org/videolan/vlc/-/issues/25411).
