Never mind. I did a full reset of the Preferences and it is working fine now. No idea what caused the problem: I do not fiddle with the settings.

I am playing MP4 video files under Windows 10 on a 8 core AMD machine with 16 GB of RAM. Videos that play correctly under KMPlayer pause briefly every second, while the audio is not affected.
