Good find! AVRCP 1.3 should handle both the currently playing metadata and the queue of upcoming tracks. Version 1.4 is required to select the media player and browse the menu. I was able to reproduce the problem and wrote up a bug report for the issue.

Try adjusting Settings->Hardware Acceleration to see if it has any influence.

Either way could you please share some logs? Reproduce the issue and then go to: Settings > Advanced > Debug logs. Then share the logs with the sharing service you prefer (Google Drive, Dropbox, pastebin...).
