This looks like a Qt issue. check that your Qt package is up to date. You might get more help on arch or qt forums. You can post a bactrace to be sure. Run the program with gdb (gdb vlc), when it crashes enter "bt" to get the backtrace. this is my backtrace, what do you think? gdb vlc run...
