A little bit more: adding playercorefactory.xml to Kodi, with path to VLC added, allows VLC to be used as the Kodi player. I am now able to play recordings from my DMR-BWT735 on VLC and record them to my laptop.

Just to add: Before posting the above about VLC, I had tried Kodi, but had no success; the last time I used Kodi it was called XBMC! Anyone solved this? I am trying to access my DMR-BWT735 with VLC via Windows 10 but am having similar problems to those posted above. Interestingly, as I have posted elsewhere in this forum, I can use an app called 8player pro on both my iPhone and iPad, although what the difference is I do not know...
