seems to only happen over speakers though - never happens with headphones plugged in

Yeah I'm seeing something similar as I wrote here:

But now I'm experiencing something similar to what you described - it's a bit loud screeching pop. Sometimes the audio completely cuts out afterwards. I'm mostly seeing this with mp3s tho.

Any updates on this? It's a real pain to deal with.

I'm getting this really loud big pop/click on play. Sometimes it happens on start up, sometimes just on play from playlist or w/e, sometimes it doesn't happen at all. Sometimes, on software startup, there is a loud click/pop - I'm not sure if anyone else is having this issue or not?

Hi, we found a possible fix for this, it would be great if you could try this build of VLC and let me know if the problem still exists:

Seems to be working just fine, so far.

I'm also seeing this behavior; is it just a VLC problem though?

Edit: I've been trying out one of the v4.0 betas and it doesn't seem to have the same issues - it's been running quite smoothly from pause.
