The are two solutions I know of: 1) open of explorer (right click on start, select explore). Select Tools/Folder Options from the menu. Click on the FileTypes tab. Find all the file extensions you want to point to some other player int the upper pane, and change their "open's with" applica...

1) build a batch file (what's a "Batch file?and how do you "Build one.) that invokes VLC the way you want using command line options (Command line options???) batch files are text files (that end in .bat) and contain commands to the operating system. Those commands typically have options ...

Yes, there's a way. Two ways, actually: 1) build a batch file that invokes VLC the way you want using command line options 2) create a file with the streaming commands (I cut and paste from the http vlm page), then type the name of the file (with path) as the VLM Configuration File under Preferences...

what he's saying is that machine 1 (the server) will naturally be ahead in the video as compared to machine 2 (the 2nd computer) because it doesn't have to wait for the data to be transferred. So, in theory, you could start a 2nd instance of VLC on machine 1 (so now it has two instances: one serving...

my first point above turns out to be a fault of the Fusion drivers, and not VLC. as to point 3), this is a little weird...if I add 2 directshow playlist items, each with different capture devices selected, they both show just dshow:// as the URI, but pressing >>| to advance to the next stream indica...

bottom 1/4 of the screen? wow.

I suspect you're correct, as I had similar problems with an older all-in-wonder card (but it was only a couple of green lines, not inches of green). Try setting the video size manually in Preferences/Input Codecs/Access Modules/Direct show/Video Size.

Have you tried opening preferences, enabling "Advanced Options", then navigating to Input Codecs/Access Modules/Files and changing the cacheing value to something larger?

You set it through file extension association.

You can change the associations using the file explorer/Folder Options/File types, or, you can reinstall VLC and one the checkbox options let's you associate VLC with various file extensions.

I assume when you say TCP you mean a HTTP stream. For HTTP, the address field is used not to describe the requester's address, but to describe which server interface the server should listen on. In most cases, you'll want to leave the address field blank so that requests over any interface are heard...

Got around to playing with my TV card last night, and noticed the following bugs: 1) When choosing audio device, the field is not long enough - my device name is 32 chars long and the last char is being clipped. Oddly, this doesn't happen with the video device selection which is also 32 chars long. ...

Make sure f:\\videostreams\\snowboard_200.mp4 actually exists.

Check the message log for any errors on your VLC server (you may need to set verbosity higher).

If you don't want your video always playing, your only choices are: a) video on demand b) leave the stream stopped, and start it when you want to view. This is awkward because you have to start the stream then connect to it - guaranteeing you'll miss the first few seconds of your video. c) don't str...

UDP vs TCP connection.

If you're on a private network with plenty of available bandwith, you're probably fine. Over a large or congested network...TCP might not be such a good choice.

If the video is live, UDP is better.

Bugs

Having installed 0.8.5 yesterday, I've run across the following issues: Preferences: interface/main interfaces/http/host address is always one higher than last save when you restart. Very weird - and annoying. Stream Output/VLM configuration file - \ not allowed in path name - must use /. Messages l...
