Re: When did y'all drop XP support?

Windows XP absolutely sucks. Graphics driver are awful and the APIs are awfully dated and inadequate, while the audio HAL is nonexistent.
Issues that affect 99.99% of users are more important than issues that affect the other 0.01%

You're in the 0.01%.

Re: When did y'all drop XP support?

The vendor support argument has always been nonsense. XP was the last version of Windows that didn't suck. If enough software vendors got together and agreed to only support good version of Windows, rather than whatever was newest, they could force Microsoft to pull their heads out of their asses an...

When did y'all drop XP support?

VLC 3.0.8 installs on XP with no complaints but 3.0.17 and 3.0.18 don't. I haven't yet tested all of the versions in between.

Perform image rescaling in the player, rather than in hardware?

Every media player I've seen suffers the same two issues related to rescaling: 1) The user has no control over the rescaling method used (linear, Hermite, Mitchell-Netravali, Catrom, Lanczos etc.) 2) If the player is being run in a virtual machine, or if graphics drivers are not installed, the playe...

Re: Current version of VLC cuts off the bottom of the image

Something I probably should have mentioned earlier... this problem only occurs on my desktop, which has a GeForce card. My laptop, which also runs Win7 but has Intel Integrated graphics, does not have this problem.

Re: Certain files (of varying non-MOV formats) will not play, or won't play correctly

I can't download the first file because it's asking me to log in.
The globalists don't want you to know this, but creating an account is free. You can just take them home with you. I have 437 accounts.

But if you'd rather not: https://www.sendspace.com/file/3f5idu

Certain files (of varying non-MOV formats) will not play, or won't play correctly

Example 1: https://www.animemusicvideos.org/members/members_videoinfo.php?v=11567 Only the first few seconds will play correctly in VLC; every other media player will play the whole video. Example 2: https://www.sendspace.com/file/a5kym1 VLC won't play the audio or video from this at all, but the ma...

Re: Current version of VLC cuts off the bottom of the image

Hey, I'm glad to see that some people got similar issues resolved, but I'm afraid that the issue I'm talking about isn't limited to captured VHS tapes or weird resolutions. It happened to some 100% VCD-compliant MPEG-1 files that I encoded myself from ripped DVD sources :\ I first noticed it when th...

Re: Current version of VLC cuts off the bottom of the image

the reason why I'm asking you to reset the preferences for testing purposes.
My preferences were reset every time I uninstalled and reinstalled. Preferences are not the issue.

Re: Empty playlist on opening a file - can it be done already?

Yeah, the automatic buildup of a playlist as you open file after file is really weird and makes no sense.

Re: Current version of VLC cuts off the bottom of the image

I can't reproduce the issue so please, answer my questions about the graphics card Geforce GT 730 and the VLC video output module. I have no idea what that is. Are you talking about the ports/cables? Also tell us your video driver version number. It's whatever the newest one from nVidia is. Four hu...

Re: Current version of VLC cuts off the bottom of the image

Looks like it's on Windows 7, but what is your graphics card ? Which video output module are you using ? Try another video output module Hahaha. No. This is a thing that only happens on VLC 3.0.9 and up, and not on 3.0.8 or earlier or any other player. It's therefore a VLC problem, not something th...

Current version of VLC cuts off the bottom of the image

Opening the exact same file side-by-side in VLC and another player shows that VLC is cutting a few rows of pixels off the bottom of the image. This effect is much more noticeable in low-resolution videos than in high-resolution ones, so I'm assuming it's a fixed number of pixels. Example: https://im...

How is this in any way necessary? Just use the Minimize button. Taskbar space isn't THAT precious.

I second this. Does VLC even remember where you were in a file more than like... 2 files ago?

Re: Auto play the next file in the same folder

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't this feature already exist? it's called "playlists". you take all the videos in a folder, you put them into a playlist, problem solved. What am I missing?

Re: Shuffle Mode Track Grouping

This is somewhat unnecessary if you know how to merge and re-encode files. Like... just take tracks 5,6,7 of album X, and make them into a single MP3 and put that in your playlist :\

This feature is entirely unnecessary. Why not just create a new playlist which includes all of the files from all of the desired playlists?

Nested playlists, or creating linear "chains" in an otherwise random shuffle

Scenario: I want to load the first 5 episodes of GI Joe, the first 3 episodes of Transformers, the first 5 episodes of Jem and the Holograms, the first 3 episodes of Visionaries, the first 5 episodes of Ninja Turtles, several arbitrary episodes of The Real Ghostbusters, and (of course) My Little Pon...
