Re: [Ubuntu 18.04] Problem with Bluray menus

This is still the simplest way to get the Blu-ray menus working. Wonderful; Thank you!

Re: Ubuntu Snap Dynamic Library Locations

As I was unable to resolve the use of dynamic shared libraries with the Snap installation, I removed that application. As a next step, I installed the version from the focal repository. I used the apt package manager, but you can use the Ubuntu Software app manager to get this version via the GUI as...

Re: Ubuntu Snap Custom Library Locations

What part of "libraries are loaded by the run-time" do you still not understand? The short answer: it's the part that goes, "libraries are loaded by the run-time." My apologies for any confusion. I believe we're speaking of two different things, so please allow me to establish a...

Re: Ubuntu Snap Custom Library Locations

Thank you for the help. I have been thinking on this configuration for a while, and I'm still not coming up with a method to use external shared object libraries with the snap implementation of VLC. Maybe I should approach this a different way. It seems the snap filesystem creates a virtual translat...

Re: Ubuntu Snap Custom Library Locations

How libraries are loaded is up to the run-time, not VLC. There are no special provisions normally, nor in the Snap version of VLC. Rémi, I appreciate the feedback. I'll look into this a little further to see if I can leverage appropriately. For clarification, you're indicating the snapd run-time, c...

Ubuntu Snap Custom Library Locations

Hi, friends. I believe we're encouraged to use the Snap application manager method of installing the latest VLC with Ubuntu 20.04. Unfortunately, there's not a great amount of documentation as to how the read-only (RO) Snap mount location works versus the local customization within the user director...

Re: VLC and Intel Quick Sync Video (QSV) Decoding

Intel should expose a direct3d decoder; but you can check the log to see which driver is used. Per the VLC 3.0 release page, "VLC 3.0 activates hardware decoding by default, to get 4K and 8K playback!" I'm guessing we've been cared for. Looking in the preferences on the macOS release, it ...

Re: VLC and Intel Quick Sync Video (QSV) Decoding

Thanks for the reply. It looks like the post you referenced reiterated what I'd already assessed: DirectX (Direct3D, etc.) are the only selectable options for decoding in hardware. OpenGL doesn't appear in my list of options, but I am guessing this is either a) outmoded or obsolete, or b) just not s...

VLC and Intel Quick Sync Video (QSV) Decoding

Hi, there. I'm running VLC v3.0.8 on Windows 10 with an Intel Quick Sync Video (QSV) enabled processor (Intel Core i7-8550U). As there is no discrete setting for QSV decoding in VLC, I wanted to know if there was a way to verify that VLC is using QSV hardware acceleration to decode for playback of H...
