Same issue here. Apple TV 4th Gen 32GB running tvOS 12.1.2. Just updated to VLC 3.04 (307). Still sees my Time-Capsule SMB in Local Network but when connecting I now see only 'Empty Folder' screen. Everything was working fine before the update.
Hoping for quick fix.
