I had this issue for years, wrote about it about 3 years ago. No oen gave a f**k moved to sftp, but that is now screwed too, cant even connect anymore... all present on ios, macos, linux and win... moved to infuse, works like a charm...

On the TvOS i can connect if I type everything each time. On IOS nothing....

For a SMB shares hosted on OS X Mojave THIS helps: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT205926 Hope this also explains where the bug in VLC is for devs. If I follow the tip, the shared SMB doesnt turn up. Cant acces it at all. With the setting on true I get spinning wheel and no playback. Rubbish :/

Killed my setup too.

4k ATV with a SMB share on a mini... I see the files, but I get "please wait" forever. Should have turned auto update on :/
