There is indeed no beta running right now. What would help are some logs. If you are tech savvy enough and you are able to use adb logcat, please share them. If not, I fear that you should try to delete VLC's storage data to start over.

What do you mean? Editing the db was never (and will never be) supported.
vlc_media.db can be opened to look into it though. I do it everyday with "DB Browser for SQLite" on Linux.
