I too see the same 5 second behaviour. Wireshark shows the bursts proceeded by an RTCP packet.

Without shaping there are bursts so was hoping this command would improve things rather than make it worse.

Hello, I notice the output from VLC when streaming using the DVB-TS mode is rather bursty. Periodically there are very long gaps between packets (wireshark shows this as packet delta) of say 100ms, then the subsequent 20 or so packets are 0.09ms apart.
