Passthrough is and has been broke on VLC. Doesn’t seem to be any status on when/if it will be fixed.

Hoping that the op will be willing to open a bug report on this. Really needs to get fixed!

Don’t know about previous versions but as I noted the most recent beta, 3.0.92, behaves the same way.
