Workaround: It seems that the VLC for IOS app looks at the metadata (tags) in the file and uses these to decide whether or not a given item is part of an album. I am dismayed that this problem goes back to 2016 and there seems to be no progress on the issue. Maybe I need to re-think using VLC on my IOS devices.

I agree. I was looking for a basic MP3 player and figured VLC would be ideal, but the "Smart handling of music albums" is just TOO smart for its own good.

In the Wiki it mentions "Smart handling of music albums" - would it be possible to make this optional? As it is, I cannot put all of my Rock music in a Rock folder, because it keeps creating new folders like "Forty Licks" if I try adding Rolling Stones tracks to my Rock folder.
