I am aware, and thank you for reminding me. But this isn't "my" issue; I didn't start this thread in 2010. It was followed up two months later by another member: I second this request. And another two months later: I agree heartily, it should come to the front, when loading new video Follo...
Thank you, Captain Obvious! I'm not sure what the developers have been developing since 2010 - we're still on v3. I've been using Elmedia Player a lot more the past year - it often plays videos that freeze or won't play in VLC, especially partially-downloaded files. https://i.postimg.cc/DZxF...
Why is this still an issue THIRTEEN YEARS LATER?!!! This also applies to using ⌘+Tab. If I pause a video then switch to another app, when I use ⌘+Tab to go back to VLC the app comes to the foreground, but not the player window. So I must scroll to the dock and click the icon TWICE to see the ...
Well if VLC is only gonna do what every other player does, then it's not really needed, is it?  Most developers and manufacturers strive to make their products better and more innovative than their competitors', not identical. If that's the case, might as well use a generic icon so VLC w...
If by "proper look" you mean opening it in a plist editor AND a text editor, that's exactly what I did. When opened in a plist editor, the file names fall under recentlyPlayedMedia and recentlyPlayedMediaList. http://www.pixhoster.info/f/2016-10/428f9b456985399c31bdc66962bb8b07.png ...
On my system that file only contains the names of some files that have been played, NOT settings. I just posted a topic about a security risk in that file. https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=135914 Settings are are stored right next to it in a folder named org.videolan.vlc, and the ...
Why does VLC keep a record of some recently played files in org.videolan.vlc.plist even after VLC's recent files list has been cleared many times and the app has been closed & reopened several times? THAT IS AN UNACCEPTABLE SECURITY FLAW! I used EasyFind to search for a filename, and was ...
For some files this happens every few seconds. However, if I go back in the movie a second or two the area that was greyed and pixelated will play properly until the next time this happens and so on. The information appears to be there but VLC isn't playing it correctly. It acts just like a bufferi...
After posting, I blasted myself again. Is volume control the default setting, or did I change that at one point?
If that's the default, it's horrible and should be changed in the next update!
There needs to be a preference to disable volume control with the mouse wheel. Many times I have paused VLC to check my mail or do something else, and when I resume play I almost blow my speakers because somehow the volume has moved way up. The control doesn't seem to work correctly anyway: One woul...
You're right, I guess there never was, I was thinking of Quicktime.
Don't know why I never missed it before - it should be right there with the rest of the controls, because it's an important button (IMO).
Well, I've gone back to 1.1.12 anyway, because I dislike the new player.
Since "upgrading" to 2.0, the Menu button has vanished.
Quite often while playing a video, I want to go to the menu, but now that seems impossible - there's a Playlist button where the Menu button should be!
And there's not even a Menu button in the Video menu.
Am I missing something?
Thanks for the answer, but: 1. I went through the advanced preferences while a video was playing, and I saw nothing that tells me what format the video was, or audio info or anything. Where should it be? Seems to me there should be a very simple "Get Info" option in VLC's File menu. 2. I r...
This is the first time I've needed to convert a file with VLC. I have a high quality AVI file, don't know what kind, since OSX gives no clue of its properties and VLC doesn't seem to give any info either. How do you find out a file's format? When I play the video, there are lines across the screen, ...
