the current version of VLC for Apple TV has an option to connect to a generic server. this can be done with SMB, FTP or Plex. but how has this to be done ?? are there instructions for these protocols ?? my choice would be to use the Plex protocol, as I have a PMS server running. but what port should...

that would be difficult, as everything goes over ssh and vnc
however, I have been playing with the picture settings of my TV
and there seems to be more brightness than usual.
so, I turned that down in steps, and it looks better now.

the video's are 1080p - HD, which is not HDR.
I have no other players to test it.

I am running VLC 3.0.4 on Debian 9.6 Stretch.
when showing video's on my TV, using a HDMI connection, video's look some kind of misty or foggy.
tried to change the contrast and brightness in steps, but that does not change much.

any suggestions ??

if I turn this on, I have similar problems.

that main thing is, that you cannot open the VLC GUI from the desktop.
it has to be done from Terminal.

I am running the latest version of VLC on Debian 9.6
there are several audio formats for AV-files, such as AC3, AAC, E-AC-3, etc.
most of them play well with the latest version of VLC, but AC3 with the codec-ID A_AC3 do not have sound.

should I use another start-option ??

what it comes down to, is that when I try to open VLC from the desktop, the program does not show.
it does, when I use RDP bit that is not showing rdp0: which has the hdmi-output.
