Remi was completely right:
I changed (via tools -> preferences -> input/codecs ->) hardware-accelerated decoding from automatic to disable
and now everything is just dandy (no more need to constantly deselect image-adjust),

sorry, should read "IMAGE adjust"

(deselect "image adjust" via "show extended settings" [icon on vlc lower taskbar] -> video effects -> "image adjust")

if Remi is right shouldn't that be the default option ?

after the update yesterday to the 3.0.3 vetinari version my screen suddenly turns completely black when trying to play .mp4 and/or mkv files; avi files seem okay (as is the audio btw) verbosity[2 debug] eror says "main debug picture is too late to be displayed" (with various ms) by deselec...
