I also tried this on OSX although the VLC version was 3.0.0 . So I got RC working on Windows however Linux and OSX gave me the same error message.

I am on Ubuntu 18.04 and using version 3.0.1 Vetinari (revision 3.0.1-0-gec0f700fcc) of VLC .
