VLC 2.2.6 reports that I have the latest version, but I see that you are right and that later versions are available for download.

In my post above I forgot to mention that I was attempting a video recording from a DVD (as the original poster was) . The DVD reads OK

Also the error log is from my desktop running Windows 7 as stated above . It is not from my Windows 10 Laptop ( although this gives the same result).

I have a similar problem. In my case the audio is recorded ( with a blank screen), then when this finishes, a silent video follows.
