It's not. I know that the log doesn't explicitly say that it is, or isn't, but you'll have to take my word for it that pass-through was set to HDMI. And again, the behaviour and log for v4.0 are exactly the same as for v3.0.

I've compiled VLC 4.0 from your git repository, tested it with a TrueHD and a DTS-HD mkv, and the result is exactly the same as with VLC 3.0 (either downmixed to stereo, or plain DTS). Figured I'd give a little update. So far, I can't seem to make VLC properly pass-through DTS-HD or Dolby TrueHD. DTS-HD gets downmixed to DTS (or it uses the Core signal embedded in DTS), and TrueHD gets downmixed to stereo. I would *really* like to hear from anyone who has figured this one out. Els...

I'm not using PulseAudio (Kodi works fine without it), so I'd rather configure VLC for pass-through. Problem is, I have no idea how. It *always* downsamples to stereo. I've gone through all the preference settings, and I can't figure it out.

Any thoughts?

Hi, I just can't seem to get HDMI Audio Passthrough working with VLC 3.0 on Gentoo Linux. On the very same box, it works flawlessly with the latest Kodi, but VLC 3.0 invariably downsamples DTS, Dolby, TrueHD, and DTS-HD to stereo (using the very same audio device).
