Have the same problem. It seems to be cause by having a QNAP NAS (Maybe other brands too) connected to the same network. If you turn off the QNAP NAS or just turn off Microsoft Networking on the QNAP NAS, VLC will then launch no problems on Apple TV and Apple TV 4K BUT as others have pointed out wha...

VLC on Apple TV has a major problem working with QNAP NAS (Maybe others) - IF you turn off the NAS VLC will launch, if you disable Microsoft Networking on the NAS, VLC will launch. Difintely something wrong with how they handle SMB - PlayerXtreme Pro works without a problem with the QNAP NAS turn on...

Have the same problem. It is definitely something to do with SMB sharing. If you turn off Microsoft Networking on the QNAP NAS VLC will then launch no problems on Apple TV and Apple TV 4K BUT as others have pointed out what's the point of that??? I also use PlayerXtreme Pro on Apple TV and it works ...
