Mild issue with Chromecast and workaround

I've been using the new 2.9.0 beta, and used the Chromecast link to stream a movie from my phone to the TV. It worked great, and I'm very happy that it does on-the-fly transcoding for video formats that aren't normally supported by Chromecast (like mkv). I had one issue, where I would pause the stre...

Re: Delete file option is gone!!

Yes, VLC tries to delete the file if you click on it. I guess it just doesn't function properly under Oreo, since it looks like it deletes the file but a refresh brings it right back. I have no idea what the code is doing; all I can tell you is that VLC 2.0.6 for Android was able to use the delete ...

Re: Delete file option is gone!!

I restored the option. (nightly builds for now). I delete doesn't actually delete the file, it's that VLC doesn't have write permission on file. Even on internal storage? I'm not using an SD card or USB stick on OTG. Just internal storage on my Pixel C, running Oreo 8.1. It's fine if it's global fo...

Re: Delete file option is gone!!

The restored delete function in the latest nightly build (12/22/2017) is working fine. Thanks!

UPDATE:

I spoke too soon. The delete function is there in the three-dot menu, but it doesn't actually delete the video.

Re: Delete file option is gone!!

If you are using internal storage, then this is a bug, and nothing else. We don't delete on SD and OTG, because Android APIs are a mess for this. But internal memory should always work. If not, open a bugreport. As Dekans pointed out, this is an issue with Android 8.x. The delete file option was de...

Re: Delete file option is gone!!

Good to know, I suggest you to join the Google+ community, I'm more reachable there. https://plus.google.com/communities/113615952107012455563 And during beta we had a lot of crash reports showing deleting on Oreo was not always OK. But we'll fix this. I'll join the group later today. Keep in mind ...

Re: Delete file option is gone!!

Delete option has been removed only for Oreo device. Because of new framework/rules to acces. We'll fix Oreo later. I edited my build.prop to trick VLC into thinking I was running Android 7.1.2 and running API 25. I rebooted, and while this did cause problems for a number of apps, I discovered that...

Re: Delete file option is gone!!

I have a Google Pixel phone and a Pixel C tablet. Both are running Android 8.0. VLC version 2.0.6 from the Google Play store has the option to delete videos, both in the 3-dot menu and the information page. The latest version from the Play store, 2.5.12, does not have the delete option. The videos o...
