... I did not uninstall the original VLC copy which is on my PC. The d/l installer looked like an updater. Had it have been a complete new version, I would have assumed it would simply overwrite?

You can still right click on your CD/DVD/BD drive in Windows Explorer and select Eject from the context menu ;-) Hi Lotesdelere, Thanks.
