I have hundreds of artist folders. Yes, very tedious. and each artist folder has about a dozen album folders within. I don't have time to open thousands of folders.

Ok, thanks, that worked. Hopefully it gets put into the main version soon. Odd that they called it date rather than year though. Windows, the file properties, and seemingly every other media player call it year.

My music files are slit up into folders according to artist. When I try to play the whole lot at random, VLC will only expand the folder containing the random song it has chosen. When I play my music playlist, I like to see the year that a song was released. It'd be great if I could add that column to sort items by.
