I'm now using v2.1.5 and it's working perfectly. I downloaded the latest version but it still does not maintain the setting for stereo/mono, forcing a person to make that change for every individual song. Who thought that is a good idea?

Your reply is exactly correct except for one problem, as the OP states - it is not maintained from one song to the next. And in Preferences in the DirectX section is the option to set Mono, then click Save, restart VLC, and guess what? It's in STEREO. And we're back at square one. Please fix this bug.

Ok, so I found a fix - first I upgraded to the latest version which I thought was 3.0.7.1 but my VLC still shows 3.0.6 Vetenari, whatever, then I opened C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\vlc\art\artistalbum\%username%\%albumname% and removed the two files that were in there - something simply called &qu...

Same for me, using version 3.0.6
First I used an mp3tag editor and added album art to all the songs in a folder, but they do not appear in VLC.
Then in VLC I added the cover art to each song, one at a friggin' time, and the cover art is still not saved.

First, I absolutely hate autoplaying online video/audio, more than anything else, that is the worst thing about websites. When I am using my laptop, I am listening to my own music.
