Perhaps a better way to implement this would be as minimum and maximum buffer settings. The first sets how much of a buffer must be built up before playback begins (this is just the current functionality) and the second sets how much VLC will attempt to build up in the background.

Why does playing it through fix it? I have experienced this problem and DID find that allowing it to play through normally fixed the issue. But since the file isn't modified during playback, the "fix" has to happen either to VLC or the OS. Which is it, and how can I effect the fix without ...
