Running a fresh install of Debian 12 and VLC 3.0.18 Vetinari. I can use VLC to play back 720p/1080p versions of TV shows and movies with zero problems. Are you using the same output plugin for Totem and MPV? Otherwise, this is comparing apples and oranges.

I'm kinda sorta a n00b when it comes to Linux. If you can tell me where to check for those settings in MPV and Totem, I'll gladly do so.

Using Antergos, VLC v2.2.6-2 with Nvidia proprietary driver v384.59. I only see this problem with VLC, not with Totem and not in MPV. When I'm watching a video and drag the slider to skip to another part of the movie and release it, the video pauses for a few seconds...... then I get a weird graphic...
