VLC 3.0.18, Checking for updates returns the error "Update Error!". I see the app contacts update.videolan.org, and the connections are made successfully. Has the domain changed or is it down?

I concur. This is clearly a bug.
Do this:

1. Play a movie
2. Summon the bookmark manager with ⌘-B
3. Add the bookmark(s)
4. Close the movie.
5. Launch it again.
6. Open the bookmark manager
7. The bookmarks are gone.

To the developers: is it possible to fix the defect in the near future?

A little clarification: the jerky streaming manifests with 720p videos. The playback is smooth when it's SD.

What you see is raw AppleEvents code. It happens when this code doesn't compile which, in turn, more often than not is the result of upgrading the system. VLC 3.0.17.3 can't play YouTube streams smoothly: I see grey pixelation and it's stuttering every couple of seconds or so, very similar to contrived buffering. The issue arises in all macOS I run from 10.7 to 10.14.

The issue not solved, only worsened: 720p affected, only short 420p are played, some return a playback error (couldn't open the stream). I moved that lua script to ~/Library/Application Support/org.videolan.vlc/lua/youtube.lua

It's now 3.0.14. The change log boasted an impressive set of features such as 4K and 8K playback, but it still plays 720p YouTube Videos. Is this going to be addressed before VLC 4 becomes available for the public? It's 2021 and YouTube streaming quality is stuck in 2011.

When I hit play button again (after the 1st viewing) the image is scaled down with black space from the top and to the right.

I can confirm that as of ver. 308 the full-screen view is not a native one no matter what troubleshooting is done. Trashed those files, restarted – no difference: still just fits the screen. I went to advanced prefs, ticked/unticked "Use Standard" – no difference.
