What baffles me is why there does not appear to be a setting to force VLC to read the album art direct from the media file tags every time, instead of looking for a cache or separate files within the album folder.

There are better places to post that kind of rant. This topic is about developing a fine speed control extension, not complaining about the standard function.

Just a comment, but I wonder whether anybody can shed light:

1. With the extension running, the standard playback speed control is no longer functional;

2. Double-clicking the standard playback speed indicator crashes VLC.

Support for older versions of VLC is discontinued. Using the older versions of VLC when cessation of support will lead to computer infection with viruses and other malware, damage to the motherboard BIOS and the explosion of computer.

OK, thanks, got that. Unfortunately it appears that the setting does not take effect without closing VLC and launching it again. That's not useful in a live situation.

In preferences, you can set the rate as you wish, and as precise as you wish.
